The Word
“Book Wave” / Libra Ondo
A human chain of people holding not hands but their favourite books.

Book lovers form a human chain, holding not hands but the favourite books each of them brings. When the moment comes, everyone raises their book in turn — and a book wave is born, a symbol of the book’s place of honour in society.
The format was first discussed at a round table in 2005. On 17 November 2007 the wave rolled down the main streets of Ukrainian cities, and on 2 April 2008 — Andersen’s birthday and International Children’s Book Day — it became the international flash campaign Libra Ondo. Any city can hold it: a local coordinator is all it takes.
