International flash campaign Libra Ondo — “Book Wave 2008”
On Andersen’s birthday and International Children’s Book Day the wave rolled simultaneously through several cities; the main organiser in Ukraine was the National Library of Ukraine for Children.
The key question was “Which book will you take?”: the preparation turned out to matter as much as the wave itself. In Kyiv the campaign was part of the National Library for Children’s celebration “Travelling the Book Universe”, with a theatrical show and guests from the Ministry of Culture, the Veselka publishing house and the magazines Odnoklasnyk and Barvinok. In Hadiach there were quizzes and a show based on Andersen’s tales; in Rivne about 350 readers of the regional children’s library took part, and local TV channels broadcast a report.
The organisers saw the campaign improve by itself: music appeared, and “gymnastics with a book” became a dance; pranksters appeared, and the Book Wave turned into a “book tsunami”.
