Planting of the city’s Language Alley
Kyiv schools brought handmade language trees and exchanged them for living saplings.
The culmination of the LINGVA ARBO project: children from various schools, gymnasiums and lyceums brought their schools’ family language trees, with leaves reflecting the languages of their ancestors. Honoured Artist of Ukraine Raisa Nedashkivska and sopilka player Oles Zhuravchak opened the celebration with an excerpt from “The Forest Song”; to the singing of the Horlytsia ensemble the language trees were exchanged for real saplings and planted.
The show-auction “Treasury of Warm Words” was hosted by the guest of honour Jean-Marc Leclercq, who signed diplomas for every participant. The same day the Esperanto Alley in the Druzhby Narodiv square in Obolon, founded in 2006 by UEA President Renato Corsetti, was solemnly extended.
