1st International Language Festival “Ecology of Communication”

In the International Year of Languages the festival was held for the first time simultaneously in several cities of one country: in the regions on 11–13 April, in Kyiv on 18–20 April.

Representatives of different nations and ethnic groups introduced the public to their languages in a light, popular form. In Kyiv, 18 April saw the grand opening and presentations of world languages, 19 April language corners and alphabet presentations in the city’s best libraries, and 20 April concerts and language stands in Mariinskyi Park: the 2nd “Feel the Taste of Your Native Language” arts festival as the verbal focus and the 1st “Arts as Languages of Friendship” festival as the artistic one.

For small towns the committee designed a mini-format. In Hadiach the festival took place on 18–19 April at several venues — a college of culture, an agricultural lyceum and schools, where the languages from the leaves of school language trees and the local Hadiach dialect were heard; in Komsomolsk on 11 April under the patronage of the mayor.
