“Year of Mutual Understanding”
The Caravan’s next annual format after the Year of Initiatives: a year proclaimed under a single word, so that the word would enter common use.
The founder explained the point of the format by the previous year: it was interesting to watch the word “initiative” displace the more usual “project”, “campaign”, “event” over the course of a year. In the same way a year of mutual understanding was meant to put that particular word into circulation — as against “tolerance”, which the Caravan read as enduring someone rather than understanding them.
